i wished he would outsell those 2 (50/kayne) but i guess people like me are to blame for that...........

The 50 Cent-Kanye West 9/11 release date matchup has generated its fair share of hoopla. Understandably so. Two high-profile artists going head-to-head for consumer dollars always makes for an interesting story, especially when the artists are opposites and one of them is 50 Cent.

In the sort-of-friendly feud, debates have been proposed, bets made and early retirements promised. The question of who will win the sales race seems to have overshadowed the music on the CDs, 50 Cent’s "Curtis" and West’s "Graduation."

Meanwhile, country artist Kenny Chesney is releasing his own CD Tuesday, "Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates," and it’s quite possible he could quietly trump both of his much-hyped hip-hop compadres.

But 50 Cent does have a history of moving serious units, so he may be tough to beat: 2003’s "Get Rich or Die Tryin’ " sold 12 million copies worldwide; 2005’s "The Massacre" moved almost 10 million copies. The CD industry, however, has changed dramatically since then, with rap sales decreasing by 21 percent from 2005 to 2006, while country music sales increased by 5 percent over the same time period.

And if you check last year’s top-10 list of best-selling albums, you won’t find any rappers on it. You will, however, find three country artists: Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and the Dixie Chicks.

Chesney, who has managed four No. 1 albums, doesn’t sport bullet wounds or pink polo shirts, but he does seem to have an audience that still buys CDs. Maybe 50 Cent and Kanye West should team up and challenge the Knoxville native to a debate. Or else they can all just wait until next Wednesday when the new Billboard chart appears: Only one of the three heavyweights’ names will be sitting at No. 1.
